Midpoint Reflection Questions

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?
It's been the same as I expected, because I knew that it would be hard work and it is. I didn't think it was easy and it was not.

What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?
My work place is very different from the school environment. The word uses there are also different from the ones used in school. At work words related to work are said, at school words that related to school are said so it's different. I learn to communicate differently and I have learned new words that I know I will see and have to learn in the future. Now I know them and I don't have to learn them anymore.



What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?
I think that we have become great friends. We talk about family, the way we want our future to be, how we feel about thing and we even talk about politic. She tells me great places to visit and what I will find nice there. I can really get use to Ms. Evelyn, she's very fun. I like Her.

What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?
I think the biggest challenge that I face in internship is learning what to do and getting use to the type of works my co-worker wants me to do. I learn what she needing of me fast and toke notes so I don't forget, and now I know what to do even if she's absent.

What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?
I became very tired most time because I have to do my homework at night very late, and still most time my homework is not complete so they are late. I handle it by doing my homework in the train going and coming back from internship. (Giselle gave me the idea)

What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?
I want to accomplish as much work possible for Ms. Evelyn so she doesn't go crazy after I leave.

What new things have you learned about New York City?
I learn that it's a very beautiful city. My friends and me were walking around because it was to early for us to start; we came across a little market in Union Square Park that reminded me of the markets in my country. Except, this one was clean. But it was still beautiful and I like it.

Today was not that boring. We were fixing folders and finding new places for them. It turn out to be very fun. The time pass with out us even seeing it. I saw it when it was pass time for me to go 4:40.

Hi everyday! I just learn that we are half done with internship, i hope that i can get enough done for Ms. Evelyne before i life because i really like her. I hope she doesn't get CRAZY with the phone call!

For some reason i miss school now! I made labels for the old and new staff that are coming. Ms. Evelyne in going crazy because everyone is calling her. i feel so sorry for her. Did you know that she has been in this work for 26 years. so she's use to that but i still feel sorry for her. i can never see myself in her place.

Hi again! some of the deparment have sent me the schedule but some heve not. Anyway we started a new project, but it's difficult. i try to do it but i could not. i'm still going to try because i have to know what to do. And it's something new that i want to know how to do.

I'm so tired. i fell like i've been hit by a bus. i'm sick and i don't feel like doing anything but i have do go to work. Maybe a cup of caffe will make me fell O.K and i can get throught the day.

I finaly finish with checking the schedule from the year 2006 to 2008. And i'm happy. i never knew that office work was so hard to do and now i have knew respect for any hospital. Now that i'm finish i have to call the departments and ask them for the missing schedule.

Hi! today i went to the mail room for the first time with Evelyne so we could mail the contracts to the 2008 staffs. whe also went to see her friends in the other building. We were going to see her superviser but when we got to the office she was not there. Maybe a other time.

Third Week

This week my co-woker had me file two folders of papers into the docters folders. For the first two weeks I had to fix the papers that were pile on a table in the office, we had to fix them because the new staffs are coming in June and Ms, Evelyne needed me to make new folders for them.
On the third week i had finish the filings the papers, and i started to make new folders and name tag for the old staffs. And i also had to check the schedual for the department from 2006 to 2007. Since i have finish all of that, now i have to start making new folders for the new docters. They will be coming the the office i work in to sign the contrac.

The End of the First Week of Internships

What is it?

It's a Medical Center's volunteer department, but i don't work with any patient. i work with a woman call Evelyne in office.

What kind of business is it and what kind of work do the professionals do there?

In the part that i work with Evelyne, she makes schedual for the house staff from all the different medical department and keep the docters folders. The new doctors have to go to her so she could see what they are missing, What they need and make know folders for them.

Where is it?

My work is in the 6th avenue. EVERY far from school and HOME. I love it. ahahahahahah!

Tell a little about your mentor.What happened on the first day?

At first i was a liitle scare of her but after i beging to like her, she's funny and curious. I like the fact that she always want to know somthing about me or my Country. My co-worker is also nice, i have to work hard to keep their trust.

What kinds of things have you done so far?

So far i have look in different folders and write the things they are missing i also file some papers and Evelyne tells me new things to do if she doesn't come one day.

When do you leave school?

I leave school to go to the internship at 11: 40 or 45

How long does it take you to get to your internship?

If the train get there fast i might get their at 12:30 or even 20. When that happen me and my two friends from school (work in same place) go out till the time cames at one.

When do you arrive at home?

I get have sometimes at 5:40 but most time i get hame at 6:oopm no later then that.

What is your schedule? (What days do you work and for how long each day?)

we work monday to tursday from 1:00 to 4:00. We should start at 1:30 but since we always seem to get their early, we just start at one.

Who are the two people that can sign your time card? (Your mentor and the additional person)

My mentor Sister Pat and my co-worker Evelyne can sigh my time card but Sister Pat is the one who sigh it so far.

February 15 questions.

My Name is Dargreeny. i can be nice i can be mean, enraged Mischievous smug, matter-of-fact, ecstatis lovestruck and most things bored me, when that happen i take out my book and start reading, take my self in a world of fantasies . We can be friends as long as nobody ENRAGED me.

-What did you learn in the junior internship seminar class up to this point?

To this point i have learn that play time is over. It's time to step up and start new things. i have learn that there are manythings that one can get, if they catch it.

-What is your greatest fear about internship?-What is your greatest hope for the internship?

My greatest fear about internship is failing. I know that i can do great but sometimes i'am not always the beast person for the job. My hope for internship is to get throught it to the end. Pass the class so i don't have to it over again next year or in the summer. (I have a LIFE!!!)

-What is your internship site and what are you going to do there? If you do not know, what do you think you will be doing?

My internship is at Saint Vincents volunteers department. Theirs a hospital but i work in a different building, were all the doctors paper works are. I will be working in the MED building, helping with the paper works and making new folders for the new staff.

-What will you miss about going to high school as you normally did for the last 2.5 years?

In all true i will miss nothing. Imean COME ON!!! who do you know will miss it. Now we have only two classes a day. That's mean i don't have to go to MATH four times a week. We go out to other places for the rest of the day, It's HEAVEN ON EARTH!!
